Aysia is originally from Washington, D.C. She attended undergraduate school at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she studied communication studies and journalism. After earning a Bachelor of Arts, Aysia immediately enrolled in law school at Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, in Houston, Texas, where she earned her Juris Doctor. She is admitted to the State Bar of Texas, and Federal Courts for the Southern District of Texas.

Aysia has a plethora of experience working in both public and private sectors. She has spent many years working with non profit organizations, such as Food and Friends and Metro Teen Aids. At Metro Teen Aids, Aysia spent the majority of her time working as an advocate for people affected by HIV and aids. Aysia worked to provide effective education on HIV prevention, care, and related issues.
